Customer Reviews of Growing Up in the Faith
Where do I even start? This book is pure gold, a collection of the best vignettes written by Kimberley. I could comment on each story, so how do I whittle it down to a short review?
Not possible. But it’s an easy, enjoyable, and unforgettable read. Kimberley’s honesty through her childhood and turbulent teens is heart-wrenching. Smoking, drinking, drugs, a horrendous car crash, violent boyfriends – no cow is too sacred to be dragged into the open. And she does this with skill and compassion with the teenager she was in those turbulent years.
I end with her own words –
As I’ve matured and grown in my faith, I’ve learned that the best way to avoid being stupid is by meditating on God’s Word and applying what I learn.
I am forever grateful to my parents for walking the talk and raising me in the faith. The foundation I received as a child was pivotal in the faith I have today.
by Ruth Smith Meyer
Growing Up in the Faith is a delightfully open and candid collection of vignettes from the author’s childhood and teenage years. The stories relate the small but memorable incidents that occur in the everyday life of a child and influence the path of that child. Payne honestly recounts the kind of poor choices we all make in growing up, proves the cleansing and growth confession brings and reveals how the strength of good parenting can stabilize a person in the formulative years.
It is well worth the read. This reader hopes there will be a continuation of the story.
This is a tender yet informative book!I enjoyed the book as I grew up in the Catholic Church like the author. Revisiting the rituals of my childhood, as well as finding a different kind of church as an adult was familiar terrain for me. I too believe that my faith is what it is today because of my upbringing in the Church. This book provides a solid example for the parents of today to rear their children in a faith-based culture.
Vivid and engaging
Growing Up in the Faith is an enjoyable book with many relatable stories about growing up. Kimberley has a disarming way of talking about teenage angst and confusion, and how faith can help us navigate the way forward. I highly commend this book as another contribution by a prolific author.
